    SMS Parents,
If you want to be able to access Edmodo and see what your child is doing in this exciting new learning space, you need to email 1 of his/her teachers that uses Edmodo and ask for your "Parent Code." You will only need the code from one teacher as it will allow you to see all of your child's Edmodo activity across all their classes. Below is a screen shot showing you where to enter the parent code once you receive it from the teacher. You will need to go to http://hoovercity.edmodo.com to enter the code.

Once you log in, you will have access to your child's calendar, complete with dates and events as well as his/her grades for assignments given & graded in Edmodo. These grades DO NOT reflect all the grades your child has earned in his/her classes. These are simply the graded assignments given through Edmodo. Some teachers aren't using the assignment option so don't worry if there are no grades for your child. Edmodo is still new and very much a work-in-progress. You also have the ability to communicate with your child and the teacher through Edmodo. Teachers can also use Edmodo to update parents with specific information such as due dates, project guidelines, etc. Please visit frequently and we hope you find this tool as valuable for making our classrooms into a community as we do.

Students, don't forget to tell your parents about Simmons' Facebook page. If they "like" it, they will our updates. And the sad part is, Gwin's FB page has 61 "likes" and Simmons only has 46. We can do better than that!

    COSTUME/DRESS-UP DAY GUIDELINES

Guidelines for Student/Teacher Costumes: OCTOBER 31 is THE day

    1. All dress code guidelines outlined in the student handbook will be enforced. Hat and make-up rules will be relaxed. Hats that obstruct vision of other students in class may not be worn. Sweat pants may be worn only if they are part of a costume.

    2. Masks or heavy make-up that makes a student completely unrecognizable will not be allowed. Students are responsible for keeping the school clean from costume debris.

    3. Costumes and accessories should not disrupt classroom teaching or activities in class or movement in the classroom. Accessories may be carried to classes throughout the day as long as students are not allowing the accessories to be a distraction to instruction. Be sure to tell students that if a problem occurs with any of the accessories, teachers will confiscate the items and hold them for the remainder of the day.

    4. NO WEAPONS (real or toy) will be allowed. They will be confiscated.

    5. No costumes that are discriminatory or controversial in any way will be allowed. Remind them to have fun with this day, but not to try to get away with something that is not respectful.

    6. If they dress up, they must put some thought into it. The following is a list of ideas that don’t show any thought/effort: “Sweat pant boy superhero” who just wants to wear sweat pants, “Pajama man” defender of sleep, “Hat man”-who only wants to wear a baseball cap…please put a LOT more effort into this than those types of ideas.
